Recently John and Ruth Merrell checked on the construction progress of their new home being built at Maranatha Village retirement community, Springfield, Missouri. The Merrells served 37 years as Assemblies of God missionaries, training leaders and in media ministries.
Sixty years of marriage, and eleven years into retirement, brought them to the realization that the time was right to plan for their most senior years. Their marriage vows, and a motorcycle accident, emphasized the need to act now.
Maranatha Village came into focus. The Village offered a caring community, “walking each other all the way home.” The fellowship, people’s stories, Bible studies, prayer times, and chapel services were attractive amenities. In placing an application for entry, the Merrells discovered a long waiting list. However, by deciding to build a new house moved them to the top of the list. They invested in the Founder’s Program, and the building project began. Their visit to the site was an exciting experience. Yes, it was truly the right time!
